TGS is environmentally aware and active in being a member of Wai Care, an organisation that monitors local streams. The school has one class that is responsible for monitoring the local Puhinui stream at Totara Park. Twice a term the students test the water for clarity, ph. levels and flow rate. They also monitor the cleanliness of the stream and the macro invertebrates that live in it.

The students also plant trees in local areas from the shade house at the school. They collect seeds from Totara Park, prick them out and plant them not only for Wai care but also for Auckland Regional Park people.

TGS recycles paper and students collect each class’s waste paper weekly and it is then recycled. Here are some photos of what Kea 1 does to be an environmental class.
