Maungakiekie Hapori (Year 7 and 8)

Hapori Leader: Tanya Griffin

Welcome to the Maungakiekie Hapori. We are a group of Year 7/8 students and our learning space is the Kakapo Block.  We are made up of Kakapo North and Kakapo South (E-learning), however, we work collaboratively whenever possible.

Miss Griffin, Mrs Hayward and Mrs Tala’imanu are the whanau teachers for Kakapo South, and we are also lucky to have Mrs Jill Hayward teaching with us throughout the week.  Mrs Barrowman and Mrs Murray are the whanau teachers for Kakapo North.

This year our Inquiry focus is based around ‘Our Changing World’.  In Science and Technology, with Mr Fowler, they will be learning about hydrology, climatology and erosion.  Intermediate students will also be taking part in Science Fair later in the year.

We are very fortunate to be able to offer a comprehensive specialist programme which includes P.E., Music, Spanish, Robotics and Library (information skills).  Every Thursday afternoon, students are also offered electives based on Arts and Technology.  These include: Foodtastic, Steel Art, Te Ao Maori, Art Techniques, Coding for Beginners, Drama Club, Pitch Perfect and The Aoraki Project - which is a group of E-learning students who have created a business and are developing an app to sell to schools.

This year, our biannual camp to Motutapu Island is in the week of 19th - 23rd September.  We are well into the planning stages and the kids are already getting excited!  We strongly encourage ALL students to attend this camp, as it provides valuable life experiences.
